On behalf of the Dutch Government, The Friesian is conducting a quick scan on the dairy sector in Sudan. The first visit in March was targeted at the region around Khartoum. A second visit was made recently to explore the dairy farming sector in Eastern Sudan. Although the region has a very dry, desert-like landscape with mainly nomadic farmers herding their herds, still large irrigated area’s exist producing huge amounts of sorghum, wheat, cotton, ground nut cakes and vegetables.
